Telemedicine is the use of telecommunication and information technology to provide clinical health care from a distance. It has been used to overcome distance barriers and to improve access to medical services that would often not be consistently available in distant rural communities.
In the past most insurance carriers did not cover telemedicine, but during the pandemic HHS temporarily approved Medicare coverage, many private carriers began to cover. It is hoped this will be permanent! So many everyday medical problems can be safely treated this way. One advantage is the saving of time and expenses to travel to/from appointments, however a good internet connection is essential.
